Kylie Verzosa during Bb. Pilipinas 2015 and her recent selfies (insets)

The name Kylie Verzosa alone was more than enough to excite pageant fans and followers during Bb. Pilipinas 2015 when she was reported to be joining. And when she finally screened and qualified as Official Candidate, her popularity rose even more as different support groups united behind her bid. She became a favorite alright, and was considered one of the strongest bets to win a crown. Finals night came and she went on to become part of the Top 15. But when the eventual winners were announced, her name wasn’t called.

Many supporters were disappointed as a result. And some of them went on to encourage Kylie to give Miss World Philippines 2015 a try. But no dice. She has her sights transfixed on just Bb. Pilipinas. And after more than close to ten months after, the likelihood of joining the most prestigious national search is getting clearer by the day. Signing up has already started for this year’s edition. And if my sources are right, she will definitely be part of the large number of Aces & Queens entries just waiting in the wings for the much-anticipated screening schedules where all comers will be finally revealed.

I, for one, am very excited in seeing her compete once more. There’s nothing like gaining the important first-time experience last year. 2016 will show a stronger, fiercer, and more prepared version of Kylie Verzosa. It certainly won’t be a walk in the park. But by God, she is ready to pick up where she left off in 2015. And this time around, she is more than armed for battle. :-)

Miss Chinatown Philippines 2014 Nicole Cordoves: a Binibini soon?

23 year-old Nicole Cordoves reigned as Miss Chinatown Philippines 2014. Her images in the photo grid in this feature were all taken from the said competition. With a degree in AB Economics (minor in Development Management) from the Ateneo de Manila University, she went on to take additional courses in Fashion Design, Basic Sewing and Basic Patternmaking at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines. This could only mean that she has an eye for style with a dash of good aesthetics.

I must admit that the pictures here don’t give justice that much because of her more standout presence in person.

Jennifer Hammond for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. Watch out for her new pics soon!

jhammon41 Okay, these are not the latest photos of Jennifer Hammond. Neither are they the oldest. So I should expect a dramatic transformation of this professional model (a nurse by profession, but actively working with PMAP or Professional Models Association of the Philippines) via new studio shots soon.

Jennifer, if you will remember, participated as Official Candidate of Miss World Philippines 2013 during Megan’s time. It was an enriching pageant experience that prompted her to improve more and not to jump on the next contest right away. She steadied herself better so as to imbibe a more beauty contest vibe instead of the usual strut she would do on the runway.

This time around, she is ready. And I believe she really is. Under the training of Aces & Queens, she will definitely show a different style and aura.

Watch out for Jennifer 2.0 soon! ;-)

Can we expect the tall Ilocana to sign up for Bb. Pilipinas 2016?

Sheena Dalo is all of 5’11” (plus a little more) and very exotic!

Now here’s a real Pinay Beauty you can be assured of having a height that stretches almost forever. Take a tape measure, ask her to go barefoot, and you will end up with digits that exceed 1.80 meters. Actually, she goes vertical at something like 5’11” and a quarter of an inch.

She is 25 years of age, a true-blue Ilocana from Ilocos Norte and if you’ve been following all my daily posts about the ladies who are expected to join Bb. Pilipinas 2016, this is one of the two girls in a not-so-hard-to-guess blind item before. Her name is Sheena Dalo.

Expect Sheena to join the full force of the Aces & Queens group when they invade Araneta Center for the Bb. Pilipinas 2016 screenings a week or two after the January 30 deadline.

Want to see quick clips of Sheena in motion? Click below to watch the video of Bessie Besana’s latest bridal collection and you can catch her 1:30 and 2:05 into the same.

Pao of Aces & Queens made the art layout above of the eyes of the camp’s torch bearers for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

The art layout above was provided to me by Pao of Aces & Queens, and it shows different pairs of eyes. And these belong to the ladies who will bear the torch for the beauty camp in Bb. Pilipinas 2016. Can you recognize the lady based on just these? Try closing your eyes. Can you see their faces?

Can you see a Kylie Verzosa? Or a Kim Ross (Williams) Delos Santos? Or perhaps, you can detect which one belongs to Maxine Medina? Maybe, there are ones that lead you to Jennifer Hammond or Vina Openiano? Or let’s go for something more recent like Sheena Dalo. Wish I may, wish I might. There are more from this group that I haven’t blogged about.

Keep in mind that more than twenty (20) beauties will be presented come screening time. Let’s start counting the weeks because the number will definitely stay in just the number of your fingers on one hand.

So can you see more into the photo above? :-)

A love-filled baby shower for mother-to-be Shamcey Supsup Lee

As I have blogged before, Miss Universe Philippines 2011 and Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup-Lee will become a mother soon. And because of the very nearing date of delivery, a love-filled baby shower was thrown on her behalf. Loving husband Lloyd was always around to support his heavily-pregnant wife. Her mentors from Aces & Queens led by Jonas Gaffud, Arnold Mercado and Bessie Besana were around. And of course, her fellow pageant queens also graced the affair, led by Miss Universe 2010 4th Runner-Up Venus Raj, Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa, Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2014 Yvethe Santiago, Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2011 Isabella Manjon and Bb. Pilipinas International 2011 Dianne Necio.

Watch out for the arrival of Baby Nyke! :-)

A quote for dear Shamcey:

“Pregnancy seems designed to prepare you for life as a mother. You start making sacrifices nine months before the child is born, so by the time they put in an appearance you are used to giving things up for them.”

Photographer Dix Perez took charge of shooting the successful group that brought us the Philippines’ 3rd Miss Universe and 1st Miss World crowns

FB_IMG_1451826161606 As far back as I can remember, Aces & Queens has never had a pictorial of the whole team that was as properly set up as this. So when the lovely photographs taken by Dix Perez started showing up in the Facebook accounts of both Jonas Gaffud and Arnold Mercado, I said “Finally!” It could perhaps be the best time to do so after the camp has successfully helped in getting the 3rd Miss Universe crown (via Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach) for the country that matched well with our 1st Miss World victory (courtesy of Megan Young) for which they also got significant credits for.

So without further ado, let me just give you a quick rundown of the members in their grouped and family portraits.

Edjelyn Joy Gamboa: Making the first step for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

Edjelyn Joy Gamboa is assigned #43 for her Bb. Pilipinas 2016 application

Here is a girl who has already filed her application form for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. Her name is Edjelyn Joy Gamboa and she is part of the Aces & Queens team for this year’s edition.

Edjelyn held the title of Miss Oriental Mindoro – Mahalta Beauty 2010, and was Miss Lyceum 2012. She stands 5’8″ and can justifiably claim to be a good singer as it is one of her still relatively untapped talents.

For Bb. Pilipinas 2016, Edjelyn has been assigned #43 for the upcoming screenings. Let’s see how well she will do in the tough filtering of wannabes to come up with the Official Candidates. It won’t be easy breeze, but if she makes it, then the payoff could be much more than what she anticipated the challenge to be. :-)

Angelica Alita: Will she be in?

Angelica Alita is a Double A. Will she score As for Bb. Pilipinas 2016 screenings?

There is this beautiful lass from Oriental Mindoro who, I was told, will screen for Bb. Pilipinas 2016.

Her name is Angelica Alita. She is a Star Magic artist who was a finalist of the network’s “My Girl” contest. She was also titled Miss Puerto Galera 2011 and won a string of other beauty contests in her home province like Miss Mahalta Beauty 2011 and Miss Socorro Tourism 2011. Her face is distinctly youthful and very much cut out for a showbiz career. But she is also tall and with a lot of potentials to stand out in the pageant scene with the right training and development.

No problem. Aces & Queens should take care of the polishing. And with the screenings upcoming, she should be one girl to watch out for.

Remember the name: Angelica Alita from Puerto Galera. :-)

Mercegrace of 2016

Mercegrace Raquel is back!

You saw Mercegrace A. Raquel last during Bb. Pilipinas Gold back in 2013. She was still this 19 year-old morena from Licab, Nueva Ecija who made heads turn with her exotic vibe and statuesque height of 5’10”. She may not have placed during that very strong batch, but many pageant followers believed that she needs to return to the competition and mature even more at the right year. She certainly took the time out. A guest relations work at Solaire Resort and Casino kept her busy as a bee ever since.

Now at 22, Mercegrace could be looking at resurrecting her pageant dreams via Bb. Pilipinas 2016. This time, she is more determined, more polished and full of soul. And methinks she has more aces up her sleeve this time around. Do you think that she has what it takes to complete an unfinished business of becoming a Queen?

Watch out for the brand-new version of Mercegrace A. Raquel soon! :-)

A brand-new Mercegrace is on the way!

Her name is Riana Pangindian.

According to my sources, this girl was benefitted by the extension of Bb. Pilipinas 2016 deadline. And chances are, you will see her in the screening later at Novotel Manila Araneta Center.

Her name is Riana Pangindian. And she is from University of Santo Tomas. And also a fashion model.

I have little to go on with thus last-minute inclusion in the Aces & Queens fold. But she holds a lot of promise.

Watch out for her in the screenings! ;-)

Priscilla Kim dela Cruz is the 19th girl of Aces & Queens

Priscilla Kim dela Cruz is the 19th girl of Aces & Queens

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the nineteen (19) girls of Aces & Queens for Bb. Pilipinas 2016 could be a record number in terms of ladies successfully fielded by a beauty camp as Official Candidates. Actually, the group has eighteen (18) girls (from more than 20) called up to become part of this year’s roster, and they are:

Marlan Flores, Angela Lauren Fernando, Riana Pangindian, Sheena Seinne Bolaños Dalo, Jennifer Hammond, Kylie Verzosa, Vina Openiano, Apriel Smith, Kim Ross Delos Santos, Nichole Nicole Cordoves, Dindi Pajares, Edjelyn Joy Gamboa, Maxine Medina, Jezzeh Huelar, Angel Alita, Kimberle Mae Penchon, Loren Artajos, Tatiana Maher

But soon after the excitement of the announcement settled down, the list grew to nineteen (19) with the inclusion of Priscilla Kim dela Cruz to the fold. I know that she used to be with KF, but don’t ask me the reason/s behind the move anymore as it could be a tad too personal for the Olongapo-hailing beauty.

So there, with 19 bets for 2016, Aces & Queens is on a roll. But much as I want to select my personal favorites among them right away, it would still be premature. Yes, the likes of Kylie Verzosa and Kim Ross delos Santos seem to be flag-bearers at this point. May I interest you, however, to also keep an eye on Jehza Huelar, Tatiana Maher, Sheena Dalo, Edjelyn Joy Gamboa and Nicole Cordoves first (aside from the rest)? These five contenders are underrated for now. But it will only take more public appearances and online interest to see through their potential winning merits.

I also suggest that you review the other entries in the big group. There are real gems, for sure. You just need to give them the chance to prove themselves. ;-)

Happy Hearts Day to all!

Angela Fernando: Your Guardian Angel of a Doctor Binibini

Angela Lauren Fernando is a Doctor, a Medical Technologist, a Dog Lover and a Binibini all rolled into one!

It was a bit of serendipity that I encountered one of the best friends (whose name I will not reveal upon request) of Bb. Pilipinas 2016 Official Candidate Angela Lauren Fernando who has only positive things to say about our Doctor Binibini. Of course, who wouldn’t if you know the lady that much in a very favorable way?

Angela is a Medical Technologist first before she became a Doctor of Medicine. She is definitely not your average lady. But let’s go to her more adorable qualities in this post because she has quite a number. First off, she is no party animal, never has been. She keeps a close circle of friends whom she protects like her own siblings. She loves dogs just as much as the next canine enthusiast, but with certain limitations. She loves watching YouTube videos and follows the show of Ellen (Degeneres) religiously. She has travelled to the US extensively, but would really love a grand tour of Japan. And if you ask her friends what is that one thing she cannot live without? A cellphone battery!

The most heartwarming descriptions, though, come from her being a Doctor. Quipped a best friend: “It may sound cliche but If I were the patient, I’d see Angela as my guardian angel. Someone who looks after me, every single time…

Or If I Angela is my attending specialist, I’ll see the doctor as my partner. Someone I trust completely who will see me through my recuperation from illness, someone who will guide me and be with through the entire process. A partner for my well-being and total wellness. Something like this.

Remember your #DocBinibini now, Angela Fernando! ;-)

Binibini 18 Sheena Dalo is pictured above during the Zumba activity of Bb. Pilipinas 2016 at Gateway Mall. And many people are starting to really notice the tall Ilocana in this, the early stages of the competition.

Sheena is thrilled to be part of the nationals. Just half a year ago, she was an ordinary (albeit statuesque) individual in Laoag City who did bits of modeling here and there, while working as Information Assistant in the provincial tourism office. Nowadays, she is looking and acting like a true beauty constestant ready to snatch a title.

Will 25 year-old Sheena realize what she has been dreaming of all along? What do you think of her chances, dear readers? :-)

Binibini 29 Maria Mika Maxine Medina

Binibini 29 Maria Mika Maxine Medina. How is she doing under your radar for Bb. Pilipinas 2016? I was able to see her during the Talent Competition last Satuday afternoon at the Gateway Mall Activity Center. And my, oh my, she looks more slim and ravishing than ever before. Most of us are caught up with the likes of current front-runners – the ladies with ‘K’ – like Kylie Verzosa and Kim Ross delos Santos. Let us not overlook this candidate with 4Ms in her complete name.

Maxine knows that she may not be as hyped as the others, but continues to exhibit the full level of confidence expected of a highly-motivated Binibini. Her photos may not give you the instant grab. But face to face, she is your oriental doll with a cosmopolitan flair. Her moves are fluid and stance pageant-dignified. She will never remain unnoticed, in my opinion.

In the weeks leading to the Press Presentation by month’s end, trust Maxine to pull in the interest level. She will not lag behind, for sure. ;-)

Binibini 26 Jennifer Hammond (Photo credit: Joy Arguil)

Binibini 26 Jennifer Hammond is in the thick of the fight for Bb. Pilipinas 2016. And she is not at all consumed by the trappings of the pageant game. Yet. In fact, she is taking things as they come, and facing the demands with the kind of readiness expected from a true contender.

I asked this nurse-turned-professional model how she has been keeping up with the competition so far. And this is what she has to say:

I have been enjoying a lot in Binibini. I am the kind who finds pleasure in many things big or small. Love that i have been making new friends and having awesome times with them. It was such a pleasure to be shot by Raymond Saldana – a dream come true cuz of Binibini. Excited to see our glam shots na! Since i started preparing for this pageant, i know i have been improving holistically and learning a lot in terms of walking, how to answer questions, poise, self-confidence, fitness, people relations, patience, endurance and many more. Im the type of candidate who’s just chill – not too eager and hungry for the bacon. Yet, im still on my “game on” mode, trying to keep up with the competition, doing things necessary for it – attending trainings, hitting the gym, learning more about styling and make up, pulling out clothes from designer friends, etc. I pretty much realize im not one of those darlings of the crowd but im assured enough nman of myself to not mind. My mantra is to just do things right, have the right attitude and im good. I hope of getting the ms international crown but any other would be still more than enough.

Jennifer is well within the game zone and ready for the hunt. While she is keeping her eyes fixed on that MI pennant that could send her to Japan, she is open to any possibility.

What are your thoughts on Binibini 26, dear readers? ;-)

Binibini 38 Angelica Alita: “I have always pictured myself as a candidate of Bb. Pilipinas”

Binibini 38 Angelica Alita (lower photos taken by Joy Arguil)

Binibini 38 Angelica Alita is one of the sweetest and most appreciative among the Official Candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2016. This young lass from Oriental Mindoro considers her inclusion in this year’s batch as a precious gift that will improve her even more as an individual. She takes each activity to heart and goes through the maze of pressures, non-stop learnings and constant interactions with wide-eyed enthusiasm.

And while some pageant fans see her as a young newbie who is in it just for the experience, think again. Angel wants to win one of the crowns and won’t stop proving that she is indeed worthy of wearing one on top of her head at the end of the finals on April 17.

Read now on how she really feels about being your Binibini 38:

“…entering binibining pilipinas is by far one of the best things i have done for myself aside from my culinary journey. When i decided to screen for Binibini i was weighing 5kg heavier than my current weight, with no self-esteem, and with no idea of what was going to happen whatsoever. All i knew was that i have always pictured myself as a candidate of Binibining Pilipinas giving my all to have the crown i longed for. Today, i look at myself and see that Angelica Alita is growing. I am now enjoying this journey more than anything else. I love the almost sleepless nights, i love knowing that there are people who see the potential in me, i love being able to have sisters, i love how my feet don’t look as flawless as they used to be because of my heels 😂 , i love that i have a family outside of home and most specially i love how i allow myself to unlearn things i already know in order to make way for a new way of doing things. I am looking forward to each day knowing there is that one thing i love that i have to work for. This is an experience to be proud of and a memory i will keep for a lifetime…”

Angelica Alita is a fighter. She may look inexperienced to you, but she knows why and what for she is part of Bb. Pilipinas 2016. :-)

Binibini 39 Ria Rabajante: “I wouldn’t have it any other way…”

Binibini 39 Ria Rabajante wouldn’t have it any other way. The circumstances – however nerve-wracking and disappointing at first – that led to her third and final appearance as part of the Bb. Pilipinas 2016 Official Candidates, that is.

Truth be told, it was a big risk for her to plunge into pageant action once more. But she was willing to take up to the challenge. After having moved from her original R-L’s Angels to Aces & Queens, she reinforced herself with a newfound confidence that went with her deep-seated desire to win and become a national titleholder. And she didn’t even bother looking at other competitions. It’s only going to be Bb. Pilipinas for her.

Read Ria’s personal account now and get to know more about how she is looking at her 2016 stint in the nationals.

It was very heart-breaking when I didn’t make it to the official 40. I cried a river, got the cliche messages from my family telling me that there’s an even better opportunity coming, supporters were shocked, again it was very painful but I had to accept it. That week really humbled me and made me surrender my dream of becoming Miss Universe, until exactly a week after the screening, I got a callback from BPCI, I’m in again. I thought the Lord was very tricky, I didn’t see that coming. Right now, I can say it was all meant to happen. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Success begins at the pit, not at the pedestal. I’ve already endured so much pain caused by my dream and to be given a chance to pursue it again made me really delighted and grateful. You have no idea how happy I was that day when BPCI contacted me! This year, it’s more relaxed than the rest of the years I’ve had. 2013, I was full of fears. 2014, I took a rest. 2015, I was overly competitive and calculative. I think my journey this year is just right. The common denominator of it all is the desire that is never ceasing. My eyes are on it, on the crown, I want a back to back win for my country, I want to make an impact to the society, and I’m serious and excited about this. But I’ve learned to surrender for exaltation doesn’t come from me, it comes from someone bigger than me. Someone who knows when I’m ready. That doesn’t mean I’m slacking off, I’ve been trying to do things my way for the longest time, now I do what I can do in the physical realm and leave the rest up to Him. Whatever happens, I sincerely hope I’d be ready. Greater things are yet to come, there’s no other way but up! Xoxo.

Binibini 4 Kimberle Mae Penchon: At Gold’s Gym (top) and in Joy Arguil shots during the Talent Competition (three smaller images)

Binibini 4 Kimberle Mae Penchon is experiencing first-hand now what she missed undergoing through during Bb. Pilipinas 2015 when she had to back-out right after being announced as Official Candidate.

Nowadays, her waking hours are far longer than sleeping on her bed and hugging a favorite pillow. She appreciates whatever small time is left to focus on life at home or quality time with family and friends.

But Kim is not complaining. Not one bit. The days may be long and tiring, but she is keeping up regardless of the lack of sleep and the like.

Here is how she would sum up her daily journals as a Binibini:

“Everyday is a struggle between having fun and being exhausted in Binibini. Exhausted from wearing heels and make up and fun miggling with the girls. For what its worth, joining Bb. Pilipinas is an experience i could never forget. Being outside my comfort zone really tends to bring out my fighting spirit. Everytime i feel down i always think of the things ive done to get to this point then i tell to myself, ive been this far and this is not the time to give up.

Reading messages from supporters also boost my spirit. They always remind me that im not alone in this competition, that they are always with me. I feel really blessed that God gave me these kind of positive people who believes in me. If i could just magically enter the screen of my phone and come out from theirs, i would give each of them a hug. All i could say to all the people believing in me, you guys fuel my spirit.

Binibini 4 is just too happy when I approached her for this blog feature. She wants a medium where she can express how she truly feels grateful for all the support coming her way. And she will keep on fighting till she gets her dream: a Bb. Pilipinas crown.

Dear readers, how is Kimberle Mae Penchon faring on your list? :-)
